Abstract

Four years ago, problem-based learning (PBL) was introduced to Final Year Bournemouth University Design Engineering students as a method of encouraging independent learning. The student process of working in small groups to carry out PBL activities had previously taken place face-to-face; however the introduction of e-learning has allowed the student groups to research and resolve the problems online. Furthermore, this e-learning element has facilitated the integration of quality e-resources in PBL, such as e-journals, e-books and scanned materials. The UK Innovative E-Learning with E-Resources (eRes) project has developed a number of case studies at Bournemouth University, of which one focuses on the implementation of problem-based e-learning
