Abstract
Within this essay, a case is made that the Cycling Athlete’s Hour Record should be dropped and restored to its pre 2000 ‘ultimate’ definition. This is based on the suggestions that the concept is unfair, has eroded interest in the discipline and that the bicycles identity can make a positive contribution to the sport.
