Abstract

Based on a conference organized by the Research and Advisory Services Directorate of Scottish Natural heritage and the Biodiversity Unit of the University of Edinburgh, this book presents a comprehensive account of biodiversity in Scotland. It covers a wide range of topics including overviews of Scotland biodiversity in an international and historical context, assessments of diversity in habitats, species and genotypes, the implications of climate change and the impact of biodiversity of sustainable management for game, forestry, agriculture and fisheries. The book concludes with contributions on the consevation of biodiversity, current initiatives, and a forward look towards a strategy for biodiversity conservation in Scotland.
