Abstract

An all day event consisting of a curated program of African animation screenings with a talk and discussion on the material presented on the cultural context of production and the animated techniques employed in the films. The second part of the event consisted of a four hour animation workshop with the participation of 30 secondary school children ranging between the ages of 11 to 14. Using under the camera stop-motion techniques such as cut-out and collage, the students created short animations to a soundtrack of West African playground children's songs.
