Abstract
Layered Depth Image implicitly relies on diffuse surface reflectance,so it will raise image distortion for rendering specular objects /scenes.This paper presents an improved LDI algorithm, which can render diffuse as well as specular objects /scenes efficiently. The new algorithm adds a direction vector to every depth pixel in LDI ,and creates images from new vantage points by adopting a weighted rendering method for pixels with the same depth. It also adopts an effective method of discretization of the direction vector to reduce the storage greatly. The experiment shows that the new algorithm is feasible in both rendering speed and rendering quality.
