Abstract

Offers practitioners a general overview of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Places the Act in its historical context, investigates the prevelance of capacity, outlines the principles of the Act before exploring the main ways in which decision making can be achieved either by those with capacity or on behalf of those that lack capacity. Investigates professional's roles within the process. Looks in brief at the Deprivatiion of Liberty Safeguards.Finally looks briefly at the criticisms that have been levelled against the Act and considers the links to the 'safeguarding' process.
