Abstract

The UK is beginning to maximise its potential in knowledge transfer through its collaboration initiatives with industry. This is particularly timely due to the growing need of innovative economic revival and the fact that the UK already holds a reputation for delivering high education standards. This paper considers some of the current initiatives in which Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) manage and protect their Intellectual Capital and discusses IP ownership in university-industry collaboration. Scenarios are used to illustrate examples of management of IP ownership in practice from the three stakeholder perspectives of HEI, student and industry.
