Abstract
The paper examines the information supply/value chain. In particular it: - identifies functions and players; - points the major differences between print and electronic information; - discusses the economic implications for the information chain of the principle of scarcity; - identifies challenges for the information profession and universities. It closes with a proposed new model for academic publishing.
