Abstract
This article presents information about the European regional conference, "Social Work Challenges for Social Cohesion," which was organized during May 23-25, 2005, in Cyprus. Delegates from more than 40 countries attended the conference. It was co-organized and hosted by the Cyprus Association of Social Workers, the School of Social Work (Frederick Institute of Technology), the European Association of Schools of Social Work, and the European Region of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW). David Jones (IFSW Regional President) focuses on the need for social professionals to articulate their roles and views; and to provide evidence of their successes. Chloe Koromia (Acting Director, Cyprus Social Welfare Services) presented her views about the impact of national conditions on local social workers in their role of promoting social cohesion. She also focused on the need for participation of citizens in community developments. Other speakers were Peter Beresford and Jane Campbell.
