Pending increases in tuition fees will create a more competitive consumer market. Student expectations will increase and students and parents may well ask - is their course of study value for money? Universities will be challenged to meet increasing student expectation with the likelihood of no additional funding. The student experience, quality of the education received, campus experience and professional practice embedded within the curriculum are areas worthy of consideration. This session focused on the ability of the educator to embed added value into the curriculum enhancing the student experience, student satisfaction, league table outcomes and for no additional cost. Proven strategies and student feedback were discussed in line with the employability agenda, matching graduate skills and employer needs. The effectiveness of these strategies to enhance the reputation of University and the quality of the graduate produced was highlighted. Strategies included: external stakeholder collaboration (RFU, Bournemouth Borough Council, England Handball, School Sports Partnership, Active Dorset, PGA, English Golf Union, Club Managers Association of Europe to name a few); the use of external sponsorship (Esporta Health Clubs) and the power of recognition to promote outstanding student academic achievement; the involvement of sports students with elite athlete assessment and the professional practice of the academic.
