Abstract

This book chapter considers the remembrance and re-inscription of the anarchist activist Alexander Berkman's autobiography "Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist"(1912)in contemporary activist and academic spaces. It argues that his discussion of same-sex love in prison (radical for its time)remains mostly obscured because it does not fit into contemporary categories of sexual identity. It advocates for a renewed politics of intimacy in conceptualisations of radical sexuality in a hyper-sexualised world.
