Abstract
The focus here is on retail entertainment formats - large and small - that are a key part of tourist retail attractiveness In contrast to the department store, tourist magnet format and effects, a consideration of the potential tourist retail attractiveness of small retail and 'cluster' formats is also considered in competition for visitors in the modern promenading leisurescape. Whilst large department stores continue to enhance city centre attractiveness, the included case study on the rise and fall of music-based, urban megastores is cited as an example of a large flâneurie format 'dinosaur' that has recently become extinct.
