Abstract

The aim of this session is to summarise the evidence base on clean birth kits, to present a decision guide for use by policy makers considering the potential role of clean birth kits in their strategy for care at birth, and to have a lively discussion about the value of such a tool. The session will end with suggestions for the way forward, including establishing a community of practice. Speaker 1: Introductory presentation (10 mins) This presentation will provide a brief overview of the state of the evidence base. Dr Vanora Hundley, Immpact, University of Aberdeen. Speaker 2: Establishing whether there is a need for clean birth kits (40 mins) The speaker will present a decision guide intended to provide a data driven,user friendly tool for use by policy makers considering the potential role of clean birth kits in their strategy for care at birth. Prof Wendy J Graham, Immpact, University of Aberdeen. Discussion: (30 mins) The audience are invited to discuss the decision guide and its value in assisting policy makers in deciding whether to include clean birth kits as part of a strategy for care at birth. Speaker 3: The way forward (10 mins) This presentation will discuss the next steps with regard to birth kits. It will include details of a Research Prioritisation Exercise and an invitation to participants to join a Community of Practice. Dr Bilal Avan, Immpact, University of Aberdeen.
