Abstract

The article discusses the nature and uses of the global composites of MERIS (medium resolution imaging spectrometer) Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index. This product is calculated using near infrared bands of Envisat MERIS data and it estimates the relative location of the reflectance edge of vegetation and is more sensitive than red edge position. It can be used to estimate relative and land cover specific, and chlorophyll content in space and time. It is the only terrestrial chlorophyll product available from space.
