Abstract
The historical development of children's community nursing has been examined on a number of occasions during the past twenty years. In each of these studies, the appointment of a children's community nurse in Rotherham in 1949 has been regarded as the earliest children's community nursing service established in the UK. Through examining archival documents at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, this paper sets out to offer a new perspective on the history of children's community nursing services through examining a domicilary nursing service for chldren established during the late 1880s.
