Abstract

Best paper at Conference award. Effect of introducing a pocket die for single-hole and multi-hole extrusion is considered. The pocket’s influence on material flow in single and multi-hole extrusion is modeled by 3-D Finite Element Method (FEM). Exit velocity, temperature difference, and material deformation across the die orifice are illustrated. Pocket die design’s influence on material structure is studied via physically based models combined with FEM simulation
