Abstract

Lubricated rolling fatigue tests on silicon nitride rods are discussed. Fully densified micro-porous and porous silicon nitride rods are tested using a disc-on-rod method. Failure modes and surface fatigue spalls are examined using scanning electron and light microscopy. The degree of porosity in silicon nitride and its influence on manufacture and quality is discussed.
