Abstract
The Florence Nightingale Foundation has an excellent scheme of travel scholarships, awarded to nurses and midwives to undertake projects connected with their field of work which will benefit patients/clients and the professions more widely. I was honoured to be awarded one to visit New Zealand to explore nursing informatics. During my five week trip I visited five nursing schools in universities and polytechnics, and several hospitals in rural and urban locations. One of my aims was to identify nurses’ views on the elements necessary in pre-registration nurse education to promote the effective use of information and communications technology and equip the nurses of tomorrow with the skills and knowledge they will need to work effectively with ICT.
