Abstract

Department of Health funded project (£15,000) The main research question driving the evaluation was: * Does the education programme prepare the Community Matron to adequately fulfil their role? In addition, the following questions were also used to frame the study: * What functions are Community Matrons performing against the competences? * How do Community Matrons take the lead in co-ordinating services? * How successful are the mentors at facilitating the Community Matron development? * Can organisations support work-based learning? The evaluation used a mixed methods approach to data collection. Stakeholders’ views were collected via documentary evidence and a focus group interview with the education programme Development Team. Learners’ views were collected via a self-administered postal questionnaire and telephone interviews with students and mentors.
