Abstract

By extending the work published at ICCS 2021 Zhu et al. (2021), in this paper we propose a new method for using multiple explicit PDE surface patches to reconstruct complex 3D shapes from point clouds. Our proposed method includes segmenting a given point cloud into several subsets, parameterizing the points, and fitting one PDE patch to the parameterized points in each of the subsets to reconstruct 3D shapes. Several surface reconstruction examples are presented to demonstrate our proposed method. The comparison with polygon-based surface reconstruction shows fewer design variables and better quality of our method.
