Abstract
The North Atlantic Fella Organization, or NAFO, is a grassroots organization that formed in 2022 out of the desire to support Ukraine with crowdfunding and pushing back against Russian disinformation. Notably, NAFO does so as ‘fellas’ or individualized cartoon dog avatars wielding irrevent, absurdist, and occasionally puerile memes. NAFO weaponizes silliness and pack action against Russkiy Mir propaganda that uses disinformation strategies like Maskirovka 2.0, active measures or the ‘firehose of falsehood’ to control the perception and narrative of Russia as an indomitable empire. NAFO uses irreverence, ridicule, absurdism and flamboyant playfulness to cast a garish, bright light on the dark play of disinformation and debunk it.
