Abstract

This viewpoint article highlights the vital role of research in advancing health science education and practice, particularly in the context of Nepal. Research serves as the foundation for evidence-based practice, academic excellence and better healthcare delivery and outcomes. By empowering students and faculties, strengthening institutions and encouraging global engagement, this paper argues for strengthening a research culture within health science institutes. It explores the value of exposing students to research early, the contribution of research to policymaking and the unique challenges faced by institutions in low-resource settings, including scarce funding and limited access to scientific literature. This article concludes by urging academic institutions to view research as a strategic investment that strengthens education, improves health outcomes and narrows the gap between knowledge and practice.
