Abstract

COVID-19 is a coronary-type virus that emerged in Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. As it is a new type of virus never before experienced by mankind, it is imperative to prevent the spread of the virus, and countries around the world have implemented lockdown measures (city closures) for much of 2020. There are already sophisticated mathematical models in immunology, such as the SEIR model. However, the data used in these models are only available to specialist organisations such as medical research institutes, and therefore cannot be tested by outsiders. Therefore, we used open data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) to explore the policy implications of the statistical conclusions.
