Abstract
Globally, the UK television industry is upheld as being progressive, leading the response to the rapid changes in broadcasting that have been brought about by converging technology and changing consumer habits. However, although innovative on many fronts, when viewed through the lens of gender discrimination, we have to question whether the industry is progressive enough. This paper explores what we know about the the lived experience of female discrimination of those who work behind the television screen. It moves beyond the problem by discussing strategies that are taking place to make change happen, and considers what else could be done.
