Abstract
Social media is widely used by pregnant women actively seeking information regarding their pregnancy. Within the midwifery profession, there is a dearth of research regarding social media usage. The effect of social media on women during pregnancy is unknown. What is known that fear or anxiety during pregnancy can lead to an increase in negative outcomes for both mothers and their babies. Therefore, it is proposed that social media should be an incorporated element of the role of a midwife. Objective To explore the views and experiences of nurses and midwives in the UK utilising social media within their professional role.
